USB DRIVE RING by otas32 USB DRIVE RING by otas32
Thinking how to best go about the design concept I decided for a more masculine look.
That decision was the result that the requirements for a USB dock demanded. Size and square shape.
The two ring design is to protect the dock.
The upside down location of the circuit connections is so the ring itself won't get in the way of connecting to a slim device like a very thin laptop. The ring would stand upwards when connected.
The fact that it's a composed ring allows for even having it in different materials or colors.

Well, I have a contact that makes very nice high quality jewelery.
He told me that if I can get the measurements for the USB/data circuitry, he could start working on the molds for some prototype rings.
I can't seem to find that info, or a vendor that would sell just that, and not a whole USB storage device design...

Very interesting design. Wireless dongles like these would sell big-time as well as mass storage devices. Think Bluetooth and Wireless G/N devices. ;)

Thank you. I think so too. I mean, if you can buy a headless teddy bear (the one that looks like it got it's head stuck in the USB port), a storage device that can also work as jewelery and at the same time be very hard to lose would be very appealing I think :)

out of curiosity, wouldn't stik out a bit far on the finger?

It would stick back against your knuckle. Remember, the part that goes into the USB port hast to be towards the point of your finger, so the heavier longer cubical shape (the cover) hast to be on the one closest to your knuckle.
When I had started working on the concept, I had them evenly distributed, but then I realized something. The docking ring needs the USB connector completely free, the ring has to be completely "behind it" in order to let it connect adequately, so, the other ring bears most of the mass regarding the USB microchip and cover.
