The Design Workstation by otas32 The Design Workstation by otas32
CLICK TWICE TO VIEW FULL SIZE.

Made for the :iconthe3dartistclub: theme of the month for September/October.

The theme is "Work". So I made a typical design workstation cubicle with what I would normally have on it:

1- The puter and tablet.
2- Coffee (should have put that as number one).
3- Some pencils and pens to draw with.
4- Sketches.
5- Pics of my wife and of course one with her and me in the pic.
6- Phone.

Made in 3ds Max 2012 (on a PC of course), rendered with Vray 2.0, level correction and the background office added in Photoshop.

hahaha :D You know why I put a Mac and an iPhone? To appeal to most designers that place apple products as the pinnacle of quality, performance and presentation :D

I gotta give kudos to them for presentation and MARKETING! Oh, and of course, displays! The best monitors out there.

But I know under the hood, they're just the same thing as a much cheaper PC... My pinnacle is Alienware, just because it's so well put together and I like gaming as well :)

Besides, I can't run 3ds Max on a Mac unless I resort to things like Bootcamp, which I hate btw, when I used it I had a lot of trouble jumping from Os to Os and sharing files. And a virtual PC is just plain stupid, consumig resources of one OS inside an already taxed OS.

Mac's are good for 2d stuff but pc's are better for 3d, go figure..

Nicely done! I like it :D Can I ask what shaders you used for those textures? I've done quite a bit with textures before in terms of the images files, and touched on bumb mapping and speculative light, but I've no idea how you get that glossy look and how you manage to get the objects to look so smooth in comparison to how edged the meshes are. I use Autodesk Maya 2011 or the newer version of Blender for my 3D artwork. Any tips or possible links?

Specifically which mats are you talking about? The monitor? The photo on the right?
Most are vraymats with a falloff in the reflection map, and both highlight glossiness and refl glossiness are bellow 1 (except on the transparent glass of the iMac). I turn on fresnel reflections and put a low number on the Fresnel IOR.

Btw, almost all objects (if not all) have at least a slight chamfer on their borders.
