Well, my wife warned me that today she would be getting rid of all spider webs in the back yard. So... I ran to get my camera and hurried to this specific little guy, which has been such a good model, and took the last pics of him, before putting him in a box and spiriting him away to a safer place. I'm sadly sure I won't be seeing him again, but at least I got the mementos
I've been wondering about that... maybe they are, but it could also be the mandible area oriented towards the production of the web (they do a lot of that) I have noticed in other shots small ocular orbs on the top of the head, but I really wouldn't know if those big ones are eyes.. after all, it's not a hunter like the jumping spiders that need stereoscopic (or close to) eyesight, it simply feels vibrations and follows the web to the source.
Maybe we get lucky and this gets seen by an expert and we get the question answered, and if not, I'll try google

I love this shot, the view of the spider is very different from pictures I've seen. I just moved into a house that has at least 20 of these in my backyard and had to pull out my camera to capture them. =]

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
