Very old illustration made for the Museum of Insects of the University of Costa Rica.

Color pencils over white paper.

About 6x6"

Worked with preserved specimen model. I would say it has good taxonomy, but then again, I'm not a scientist ;)

1996 (I think...)

As a scientist, I am not sure you mean it has good taxonomy. Unless you mean that you really like how it has been placed into whatever genus/family/order/class/phylum/kingdom/domain it is in (taxonomy being the science of classification). That said, I love this!

I just meant sticking to proportions, coloring and body details.
I actually did some scientific (frontal, lateral, top) renderings of specimens that some of the entomologists at the Museum of Insects required while I did an internship during the time I was getting my major in Graphic Arts at the University of Costa Rica. Those had to me taxonomically precise of course.

There's another illustration here I did about the Cerambycidae family. I worked only with specimens found in Costa Rica, I drew them life size and assembled in an arabesque like geometric design. It was meant to be printed on t-shirts to be sold at the souvenir shop of the Museum. My internship ended and we never got around to printing those t's. That illustration was meant to be the first of a series, which would later have butterflies, bees (the orchid kind, that are metallic colored and hold more pollen in their thickened back legs), etc.

You might like it :)
